St. Mark’s is led by faithful lay and professional leadership. Supported by the fellowship of neighboring Episcopal parishes and other Christian churches, we are connected to the wider body of Christ, even as we pursue God’s calls to us.
The Strategic Plan for Ministry was approved by the vestry on November 12, 2005 and endorsed by the congregation. You can download a copy of either an abridged version of the plan, or the complete detailed plan below. They require Adobe acrobat reader, which can be downloaded for free: click the button below.

Episcopal parishes are led by a priest and a Vestry—a board of lay leaders elected from the congregation. At St. Mark’s, the Rector (the priest in charge) appoints a Senior Warden to be the senior lay leader, and the vestry elects a Treasurer and a Clerk. The vestry is charged primarily with managing the temporal affairs of the parish: the buildings, grounds and finances. The Rector is charged with oversight of the ministry, worship and staff of the parish. Both the priest and the vestry, however, work together as leaders of Christian ministry, and in developing and empowering lay people for their own leadership and involvement in ministry. For more information about St. Mark's Vestry structure, read our By-Laws (in Acrobat format).
The current Vestry of St. Mark’s consists of:
The Rev. Tom Pumphrey, Rector
Jim Wagner, Senior Warden [click here to email]
Tom Knight, Treasurer and Vestry member
Dave Ohs, Clerk and Vestry member
Holly Weaver, Vestry member
Jim Holt, Vestry member
Tom (or “Father Tom” to some) began his ministry at St. Mark’s in July of 2004. After earning an engineering degree from Cornell, Tom began a career in the welding business with Lincoln Electric. After managing a sales territory in St. Louis, Missouri, he became a Product Manager with the company headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. A cradle Episcopalian and child of an Episcopal priest, Tom had long been formed by his deep sense of God’s love, his experience in choirs and in various ministries of the church. A long-brewing call to ordained ministry finally moved to action in 1999. He and his family moved to Virginia Theological Seminary in the Washington DC area in 2001 and Tom finished his Masters in Divinity degree in 2004. During that time, Tom continued to learn and grow in Biblical studies, theology, preaching, pastoral care and in congregational development and leadership. Tom was ordained Deacon in June, 2004 and Priest in December, 2004. Tom and his wife and two school-aged boys thoroughly enjoy the Honey Brook area, and are delighted by the warm welcome and hospitality at St. Mark’s. “I am excited by what God is doing at St. Mark’s and the many blessings and gifts for ministry in this congregation.” [click here to email Tom Pumphrey] [top of page]
Sharon Levering brings many years of experience in music ministry in Lancaster County as a substitute musician and formerly as Organist & Choir Director at St. John's Center Lutheran Church. She is a skilled and experienced vocalist with the Wheatland Chorale and a member of the American Guild of Organists. She has a love of music, an appreciation of well-crafted liturgy, and a devout faith in God. "I'm so fortunate to work with such talented and dedicated choir personnel. We hope to increase involvement in the choir-including youth voices. We hope to reach out to the community with this music ministry as well."
